This weekend I took time to finally watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy... apparently I saw all the extended versions and man were they long. Good but long. Return of the King was FOUR HOURS LONG!!! Why was I not informed. Sadly I realized this when I got to the 2.5hr mark so now I had no choice but to continue. Well that is now down and I am finally in "the know." That is all.

The Sig Other loves these movies, so we have them all on DVD, and they are a bit of a slog. As for the Hobbit movies - she asked me why there would be 3 instead of just 1, as there was only one book. Oh, only because they'd make $900 million 3 times instead of once.

Yeah, the first time I watched them it was with maybe a dozen friends in high school... one of my buddies had a basement with one of those super heavy CRT TVs, was probably a 60" that weighed hundreds of pounds, and three or four couches. We'd all bring snacks and/or pitch in for chinese takeout, whatever.

Anyway, said buddy with the basement was/is a huge nerd (to the point of having taught himself the elvish alphabet and writing shit in elvish all the time) so he insisted we watch the extended edition of all three... and we were going to watch all three back to back in a row!

We started the Fellowship of the Ring at 9am, and that wasn't bad... I think I fell asleep at 2 or 2:30 halfway through The Two Towers with a cute girl lying on my lap, and that's all I remember of that one. We got woken up for The Return of the King around 4, and we both got a bunch of shit since she'd fallen asleep too.

good times.

Couldn't have been said better. Who can say no to such easy money? I do like the fact they bring the trilogy out year after year though. I hate waiting years for a sequel.

Crazy thing is I wasn't interested in the series til the Hobbit movie came out. I guess the Hobbit name carried more significance to my inner child. I was hoping for one movie to bring my cartoon to live action. Maaaaan was I wrong. They really drug the Dragon out that's for sure.

The last part, Battle of the Five Armies? was so cheesy! I don't know what kind of rev limiter he has, but Tolkien must have been spinning in his grave pretty damn fast!

As much as I am looking forward to Star Wars VII, I really want that new Bond movie - SPECTRE. I have high hopes. Daniel Craig is the best Bond thus far, to my mind.

I think 2 movies would have been perfect since I was very happy with the 1st movie, but they didn't do that... :( I didn't even see the third movie in theaters because of the ridiculous dragon liquid gold scene in the second movie.
